I'm Cathie Davidson, founder of Calling Mahjong!
I believe American Mahjong is about so much more than learning a game—it's about bringing people together. My goal is to create a warm, welcoming community where women can learn, laugh, build confidence, and form lasting friendships. Whether you're completely new to Mahjong or looking to sharpen your skills, you'll always find encouragement, connection, and a seat at the table.

My Story
Sometimes the most meaningful things in life begin with something unexpected. For me, that was a set of Mahjong tiles.
For more than five years, American Mahjong has been a part of my life. What began as learning a new game quickly grew into a passion—not only for the strategy and challenge of Mahjong, but for the friendships and sense of community that naturally develop around the table.
After facing some unexpected health challenges, I gained a new appreciation for slowing down, finding joy in simple moments, and surrounding myself with supportive people. It reminded me how valuable friendship, laughter, and meaningful connections truly are.
As my love for the game grew, so did my desire to share it with others. Teaching allowed me to combine two things I care deeply about: helping women build confidence while creating opportunities to connect and form lasting friendships.
From that passion, Calling Mahjong! was born—a place where women can learn, play, connect, and truly feel they belong.
Today, I teach beginner lessons, guided play, private groups, and community events throughout Oakville, the GTA, and beyond. My teaching style is patient, encouraging, and relaxed, making it easy for new players to learn while helping experienced players continue to grow.
Whether you're picking up Mahjong tiles for the very first time or looking to sharpen your skills, you'll always find encouragement, laughter, and a welcoming seat at the table.
My hope is that every woman who joins Calling Mahjong! leaves not only as a better Mahjong player, but with new friendships, greater confidence, and a place where she always feels welcome.
